“Worrying is like paying a debt you don’t owe” -Mark Twain

At the start of every day, I try to remember to be grateful for what I have as a business owner here at Highland Contractors. I don’t always remember to do this, and I find that when I start worrying, it’s typically because I forget to be grateful for what I have. As we enter into the spring of 2024, I’m grateful that we are still able to serve our customers, vendors, and employees with respect and appreciation. Last year was a difficult year for a lot of us due to a variety of factors such as inflation, interest rates, and the typical turmoil that is on the news. Although it has caused me restless nights, I realize that worrying about things I can’t control is futile and not worth the energy. I get up everyday and try to be a better person, a better owner, and a better friend. I love this quote by Calvin Coolidge: “Press on. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” Without worry, and with persistence and determination, we at Highland Contractors will press on and continue to provide a quality product for our customers with integrity they can trust.
